Sainsbury's EDI Connection
Sainsbury’s is a renowned British supermarket chain that has been serving customers for over 150 years. With a strong presence in the UK, Sainsbury’s offers a wide range of quality groceries, household items, clothing, and other products. Whether it’s fresh produce, pantry essentials, or unique items, Sainsbury’s caters to diverse needs, making it a trusted destination for shoppers across the country.
Sainsbury’s adopted Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to help streamline their supply chain operations and better manage their supplier onboarding process. This means that all businesses included in Sainsbury’s supplier list, whether you’re a small business, SMEs, or large corporations, will need to implement an EDI solution to establish a seamless connection with Sainsbury’s.
Sainsbury’s onboarding process
Firstly, you’ll need to become a registered Sainsbury’s supplier. If you haven’t done that already, you’ll need to fill out a form to submit your interest. Take a look at their supplier form here.
Once you have agreed on your relationship with Sainsbury’s and confirmed the message types you’ll exchange, they will provide you with all the necessary documentation. This will include your Supplier ID and Global Location Number (GLN). We recommend you keep this handy; you’ll need to provide these details to our projects team.
Then it’s time to decide what type of EDI solution is most suitable for your business, whether it be Netix One or Netix Flow. Both of these solutions will facilitate the sending and receiving of EDI transmissions. It’s important to choose a solution that fits your business’s unique requirements and enables you to send and receive the various EDI messages that Sainsbury’s has requested.
Our onboarding process
We have two EDI solutions available that can connect you to Sainsbury’s. Netix One is our easy-to-use, web-based solution tailored to small businesses looking to connect to their trading partners. Netix Flow is our solution that goes one step further, giving you more functionality by integrating with your existing ERP, WMS, e-commerce, and accounting systems, automating your key processes. Netix Flow can be customised to bespoke solutions, meaning it can be tailored to your business’ processes. Once you have decided on the EDI solution that best fits your business’s specific needs, it is important that you provide our team with your:
- Supplier ID
- GLN (Global Location Number)
- AS2 details (Applicability Statement 2)
This information helps us to start setting up your connection quickly. Sainsbury’s trades using both EDIFACT and TRADACOMS, which are common EDI standards used in Europe. Our Projects team will help you navigate the documents Sainsbury’s provides and will be there for you throughout the process.
The common message types we set up for trading relationships with Sainsbury’s:
- Purchase Orders
- Invoices
- Advance Shipping Notices
- Proof of Delivery
To ensure that you can start trading with Sainsbury’s straight away, we try to make the EDI connection process as smooth, easy, and fast as possible for you. We use pre-configured maps for Sainsbury’s, meaning a part of your connection is already set up and waiting for your solution to be coupled.
Once all the required information has been passed over to our projects team, we’ll begin the testing phase. Our installation team will test the agreed EDI messages you’ll be exchanging and will manage the installation, thoroughly testing the processes from end to end.
Once testing is complete, we will set the date for your ‘go live,’ which simply means your solution is ready. We want to ensure that you are prepared to use your system, so a member of the installation team will conduct bespoke training to assist you in using your Netix solution. After the training, you will be set up and ready to start trading with Sainsbury’s via EDI.
Benefits of using Netix to connect with Sainsbury’s:
